♫ Song No. 6 – Boy With a Coin

This week’s song is one of my favorite songs of all time. After going through hundreds of albums, I finally decided this is, for sure, the one I should go for this week. I had posted this song way back as an initiator of the whole “Song of the Week” topic back on my old Co-Op blog with Nasim (the author of Earth Called Earth, which is listed in my blogroll). But it’s just so great that I felt like I have to share it again with new people this time.

It’s a song by the Jesus-like man whom his music can gently carry you to another world that Plato himself never dreamt of. I think you should’ve known whom I’m talking about. It’s *drumroll* Iron & Wine, mi luvz. My adorbz Sam Beam. ♥

Sam Beam is an American singer-songwriter who was born on July 26, 1974. He is known by his stage and recording name Iron & Wine.

One of Iron & Wine’s albums, titled as The Shepherd’s Dog, was released on September 25th, 2007. This album was widely praised by fans and critics. The previous albums were sparse, but The Shepherd’s Dog made its way through layered textures and “poly-rhythmic” sounds that brought his lyrics to life. And from then on, it just kept getting better and better. Another one of my favorite albums is Kiss Each Other Clean (released January 24th, 2011), but let’s save that for another time.

Back to The Shepherd’s Dog, it has another bonus disc that features two unreleased tracks, and one of these tracks is the one I’m going to be posting for you people out there following us to listen to. Boy with a Coin. This is Sam Beam’s first single, and later was released on July 10th, 2007, along with other two tracks: Kingdom of the Animals, and Carried Home.

Iron & Wine’s Boy With a Coin

Over the course of his ten-year career, Iron & Wine’s epic Sam Beam, has become one of the greatest story tellers of all time. His smooth way of carving words into meticulous stories of forlorn love, wistful dreams, and religious imagery is just outstanding and surely very much inspiring. Iron & Wine’s music usually ranges between mine Folk, African, Rock, Country, Indie Folk, Folk Rock, and Alternative.  Sam Beam usually uses guitar and banjo along his vocals to produce music.

Anyway, long story short, Sam Beam’s records are now more focused on individual elements that make his band much, much more engaging. Now, ladies and gentlemen, boy and girls, allow me to present this week’s masterpiece: Boy With a Coin.
