Song of the Week. Horay *insert exclamation mark*

Although today is not Monday, and it’s definitely not morning time in Beirut, the song – even though not very convenient with the actual time – is still worth honoring today in this post.

If you haven’t guessed it yet, the song is:

Although their music has been listed under various genres like Indie Rock, Indie Pop, Alternative Rock, and even Emo, Death Cab for Cutie is an American Alternative Rock band formed back in 1997 in Bellingham, Washington. There have occurred some changes in band members, but currently, the band is composed of: Ben Gibbard [vocals, piano, and guitar] (who is also known for his unique lyrical style), Nick Harmer [bass], Christopher Walla [production, guitar, and keyboards], and last but not least, Jason McGerr [drums].  The band’s name is taken from the song “Death Cab for Cutie” by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band featured in The Beatles‘ 1967 film, Magical Mystery Tour.

The band has released seven albums, five of them are EPs, and one is demo to date. One of these albums is Codes and Keys released on May 31, 2011. It’s the seventh studio album for the band. On November 30, 2011, the album was nominated in the 54th Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Music Album.

About the Monday Morning:

Death Cab For Cutie’s front-man and principal songwriter Ben Gibbard married actress and musician Zooey Deschanel in September 2009 at a ceremony near Seattle. Unsurprisingly fans wanted to know how much of Codes and Keys was written about his new wife. In an interview with Jam! Music prior to the release of the album, Gibbard responded to that very question. He said: “There are moments on the new album – like ‘Stay Young, Go Dancing’ or the first verse of ‘Monday Morning’ – that are about my wife. I love Double Fantasy. I love Ram. I love marriage records. And I’m very aware that given the fact that I’m married to a person who is very well known, the assumption is going to be I’m referring to Zooey. Sometimes I am, and sometimes I’m not. That’s just something people need to deal with in their own way.”The couple announced their separation in November, 2011 after two years of marriage.
